Ellie Webb - Noughty Moments Episode 10

This week Amanda is joined by Ellie Webb for another episode of Noughty Moments. We discuss the out of the box decisions that went against the grain for success with a glass of our Organic Vegan Alcohol-Free Sparkling Chardonnay. Our aim is to show how much fun you can have without Alcohol.

Join the conversation, be Noughty!

Ellie hails from Colombia where happiness and joy is a way of life; it is in all of us and can be found in the simplest of things, all year round. She finds that too much of the time we take the joy out of life; dieting to the extreme, being less colourful, and not giving ourselves the freedom to do the things that will bring us extra happiness.

When on a dance night out with friends, Ellie realised that the options offered up when ‘not drinking’, often lacked a sense of joy. She launched Caleño to inspire ‘more joy’ - bringing colour, vibrancy and energy to ‘not drinking’. Two months after launching, Ellie landed a listing with major UK retailer, Sainsbury’s and Caleño is stocked in around 500 of their stores.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO YOUR LINE OF BUSINESS?

I worked in the drink industry before starting Caleño and I really loved it. It is a very social and fun place to work, especially when you’re young. So, I knew I didn’t want to move out of that but I also knew I wanted to find my own space within the industry….

WHAT NOUGHTY MOMENT SHAPED YOU AS A PERSON?

My Caleño key moments include:

2017 – first got serious about Caleño
2018 – June left my job
2019 – employed my first employee (who wasn’t a member of my family!)

WHAT THREE LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED ALONG THE WAY?

Clearly understand you're brands purpose & be ready to communicate that

Really understand what sets you apart, what makes you distinctive from the competition - what's unique about you….

Speak to any many people in your industry / get ready to become a sponge and absorb everything…

WHAT NOUGHTY MOMENT OF A WELL KNOWN BUSINESS OWNER, STANDS OUT THE MOST FOR YOU?

Right now for me it has to be the owners of Brewdog – they have had so many moments which see them break barriers and create so many firsts!
