A self proclaimed food beast and Prosecco fanatic, Pooja's love for food and drink further developed whilst working for Selfridges and Harrods Foodhalls and Restaurants and the Soho House group in senior marketing roles. Pooja's last in-house role was at Drake & Morgan bars and restaurants where she was the Marketing & Sales Director. In early 2017 she decided to take the leap and start freelance work as a marketing consultant for the restaurant industry.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO YOUR LINE OF BUSINESS?
I love food and hospitality. My dad managed an Indian restaurant for decades in Birmingham so I was always in the restaurant from a very young age. He was and still is incredibly charismatic. His customers adore him and I think it’s amazing he can make people feel so welcome and looked after. I’ve had gifts from his customers for my daughter when she was she was born – they’ve never even met me and it just goes to show how much they think of him as they’re so pleased he’s a grandfather. His line of work definitely stimulated my interest in
restaurants and food.
WHAT NOUGHTY MOMENT SHAPED YOU AS A PERSON?
Deciding to move away from a role that wasn’t right for me and I probably wasn’t right for either. It was a risky decision to leave a well-paid job without a job to go to and take a risk. I’m very risk averse as a person so the decision wasn’t taken lightly but it was important for me to leave in order to not compromise what I stood for.
WHAT THREE LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED ALONG THE WAY?
There are people will do anything to stay ahead, so be careful who you trust, only work with people you like and respect (forget what you’re being paid), go with your gut feeling.
